Which Merchant Apps Give Audible Payment Alerts While Running in the Background?

When merchants use a payment app, an important practical question is whether the payment app must remain open on the screen in order to hear an audible alert when a payment arrives. In Connect Hub testing, we found three merchant payment apps that can provide audible payment alerts even when the app itself is not left open on the screen: K SHOP, Tung-Ngern, and Merchant Pro. In this situation, users can switch to and use another app on the phone while the merchant payment app can still provide an audible alert when an incoming payment is received. This means the merchant app does not need to remain continuously visible on the screen. However, “using another app” and “turning the phone screen off” are different situations. Across almost all phone models tested by Connect Hub, these apps did not provide audible alerts after the phone screen was turned off. One exception observed during our testing was the realme C51. It could sometimes provide an audible alert while the screen was off, but this behavior was inconsistent. It therefore should not be interpreted as behavior that can be expected every time on this phone model.
